The next logical temple after the Temple of the Moon was the Temple of the Sun. Rìtán日坛 as it is known in Chinese was built in 1530, the same year as the Temple of the Moon. The emperor performed his ritual sacrifices to the Sun in order to ensure good weather for the land. Nowadays, the Temple of the Sun is a lovely public park where people picnic and fly kites. There were a lot of Russian tourists there when we were there, possibly because it is close to the Russian embassy.
